The largest of the Canary Islands. Again, the earliest known human settlement in the islands date to around 200 BC, by people known as the Guanches who called the Island Mencey after their most famous ruler. They had little technology, even by Stone age comparison and dressed in animal hides and lived in caves on the island. Just like Australia, once the Europeans came these people were either killed, enslaved or succumbed to disease. Being close to the African coast, I guess that they had their fair share of African slaves on the islands too until fairly recently. We have been to Tenerife on numerous occasions both before we got together and since we have been together. We have many blog entries from Tenerife but my most memorable one was called, “What came after Cock?”, taken from a comment by Anne and Jim.
Another Gala night another late night at the disco. It was so hot that I had to go and change into a short sleeved shirt. Ian bought Sue a special drink, a dirty banana and then got chosen to be a dance contest judge. They called him George Clooney, which I suppose, if you squint and close one eye whilst drinking a pint of spirits......
At last the weather has come back to us; we arrived at Tenerife to sunshine and really warm weather. Trouble is we also were hung over.
As soon as the sun comes out it seems to make you feel so much better. We had a little walk around and found a little cafe outside with WiFi so I could catch up with Deskarati.com and put the photo’s on whilst we were having a beer.
I even managed to hire a car from the port in Gran Canaria and return it at the airport next week. One last blog for the Cruise and then we will be in the Riu in Playa del Ingles. Claire is looking forward to being able to relax and not go to the night club to get blasted. She will now be able to get blasted whilst watching Coronation Street. See you later!
