We spent the evening on the roof at our hotel again as its really nice by the pool with the views and prices.
We heard what sounded like a male choir coming from inside. By the time we investigated they had gone but this is where they were singing. Its the room that has our cheap bar in.
After breakfast the following morning we went for a long walk along the beach, first to the East where we saw a lady doing one of those giant sand sculptures.
Just after this there was a proper place where they have lots of them all together. It was free entrance but they expect a tip on the way out. Look at the shadow of that hunky man with the binoculars. They were in a bit of disrepair, probably because of all the rain that they have had her before we got here. They have had a years worth of rain in a few days but when it stopped it headed north to Germany and England; sorry chaps. We did good and missed it in both places; we probably flew over the top of it.
There are lots of little boats at one point here but it about 50 years since they went out in earnest. They now have the modern fishing boats that catch everything that is there. They also used to have large fish processing and preserving factories on the west of the town but they all went out of business when refrigeration became popular.
This was about as far east as we walked because the town ran out. We turned around and walked back past our hotel area to the west along the coast.
I loved this little shed that thought it was a villa with its own well outside. Great views though.
They are already getting ready for Christmas with this big tree; I bet it looks nice at night with all the lights.
They had a couple of statues of the Guanches along the walk; the ones that used to pole vault between the ravines.
On the way back we spotted a nice arch bridge with a large building next to it to the West of the city beach so we headed off that way to get some pictures.
The big building turned out to be a theatre that was build by Alfredo Kraus. I remember Uncle Fred coming to the Canaries but I had no idea.
Strange, once we got around there we could no longer see the bridge so we headed up to the shopping centre to see if we could get to the back of it. Again, they have some pretty large Christmas decorations.
I like this one with Uncle fred’s place in the background. The clouds are starting to look a bit angry.
They also have an ice stadium but not many people was using it. Its a massive shopping centre but hardly any of the shops are open. Its over at least 3 floors.
I managed to find my way to the back of the centre but the bridge looks much more impressive from a distance. Its a motorway bridge.
I love this picture, it reminds me of a scene from Jason and the Argonauts; look how small the people are next to this giant statue. Is one of them trying to unscrew an oiling point on his ankle? Next stop the cruise but not looking forward to the drive and trying to find the drop off point for the car inside the city without an address for the satnav. Wish me luck.
