Around Gran Canaria in a day

We went out for a sit down chinese last night and very nice it was too.  The Buffet was €6.85 for "Eat as much as you can".  I like a challenge.  We had a nice bottle of red wine with it and bought another one from the supermarket to take home with us.

Following our disastrous drive the other day we started by putting more petrol in again and pumping the tyre up as it was almost flat again.  I think it had a slow puncture when we got it as we were told that the car was full but it was less than half full and I noticed that it needed some air the first day.  Trouble is when you first drive out of a car park in a strange car in a strange country on the wrong side of the road and you have no idea where you are going you don't look for things like that.  The first time I noticed the fuel was when we were going the right way on the motorway and I could relax and look around at what we had got.  Anyway, we decided to head to the very north of the Island vie Las Palmas to Punta de las Coloradas.  We got stuck in so much traffic in both the capital and in Arucus, driving the same route 3 times before we popped out in the right direction.  I kept saying, “Next time around”.

It was quite pretty with a walkway around the coast, blue sky and plenty of statues.  We couldn't park so I just had a quick walk around to snatch some pictures.

We could see a snow covered Island to the north sticking out from the clouds.  Without a map Im not sure which Island is to the north of Gran Canaria but maybe Tenerife with the highest point in Spain of Mt Teide.

We set off again and it wasn't long before we landed in Puerto de las Nieves which was even prettier than the last place.  They had a Fred Olsen ferry that takes cars to other islands from here.

There was a strange chisel top mountain always in the distance whichever way you looked that reminded me of the one in “Close Encounters”.

There was a lovely little restaurant called Bar Angor on the corner overlooking the sea.  We sat down for a well deserved beer.

Again, we both settled for the deal of the day at €7 you just cant go wrong and they always seem to serve you local dishes.  I had Canarian soup while Claire had the salad which I finished off.  I went for veal with chips, chili and potatoes while Claire had a huge section of tuna with Canarian potatoes.  All finished off by Creme Caramel and Claire had to have hazel nut mouse as they had ran out of the chocolate one.  Again it came out with fresh hot crusty bread and home made aioli.

The next leg of our journey to Punta de la Aldea where we ate last time was the most spectacular but I couldn't take any pictures with nowhere to stop.  Claire took some out the window but they don't seem to be on her camera.  Never mind, you will just have to take my word for it.  We carried on without stopping making it a full Island tour getting back about 3pm so Claire went straight to the pool.  I don't think we will be going anywhere tomorrow as Claire has some sun worshiping to do.

I did stop to check my tyre at one point but cant remember where were were and there were no shots other than a plaque telling you about the aboriginal tombs that I thought I would put the English part on in case anyone other than me wanted to read it.

Im not sure if I will do any more blogs while we are here, claire is a bit fed up with mountain roads and we haven't even been up the mountain yet.  If I get too fed up I might have a drive on my own or she may change her mind if there is no sun one day.  Im not sure if I would come back to Gran Canaria now we have seen most of it as I prefer some of the other Islands but my two favorite spots are Puerto De Morgan and Puerto de las Nieves.  Have a nice Christmas if I don't see you before and I hope your New Year is better that this one!
