I did briefly think about posting last Friday but then
decided that with Phil’s end of month blog the day before, it would have been
overload, besides which I didn’t really do very much last week. As always, when I have a long gap, with my
middle aged menopausal memory, I struggle to recall what I actually did last
week. Sometimes I forget what I did only the day before!
Phil spent a lot of hours last week working on Daphne’s
estate and building damning evidence against the b*****d FA. I spent a couple
hours on Tuesday helping him with filing.
Actually it wasn’t filing as such, more like consolidating and
categorising which he said helped clear his mind. Phil spoke to a very helpful guy called Paul
from Action Fraud and he told Phil to go to his local police station
immediately. This was a complete waste
of time but eventually he got a direct number for the relevant police
department and a meeting was set up for Thursday morning.
On Wednesday afternoon we went to the cinema with an Orange
2-4-1 code, kindly supplied by Harriet.
I wasn’t really bothered about seeing a movie but I could see that Phil
was getting stressed with all the legal stuff and I thought it would make him
relax a bit. First stop was Staples to
drop off a pile of paperwork for photocopying.
The only film that we could agree on was ‘Hitchcock’ starring Anthony
Hopkins. It was very good, not outstanding
and probably more of a DVD at home rather than box office but at least it gave
Phil a distraction. It was just a shame
that the screen broke right at the very end.
I am not sure what really happened but everyone remained in their seats
for ages before realising that nothing was going to be resolved. Phil wanted to complain and try and get our
money back but I couldn’t be arsed.
We set the alarm on Thursday morning because the police
officer was due to arrive at 8.00am but in actual fact we were awake way before
the alarm went off. Phil hadn’t slept
very well because he was thinking about everything and the stress gave him an
upset stomach so he was on the loo most of the night. I stayed to greet PCJ and made him a coffee
before making an exit.
Last week was an easy week for me in the cooking department
because we mostly ate of the freezer; we had vegetable chilli with rice for 2
days, lasagne, baked potatoes one day and then we both ate out on Friday. We are trying to save pennies and cut down on
eating out, once a week is indulgent enough.
Phil said his meeting went on for 2 hours with PCJ and it
all went very well. PCJ said he would
have to check with his sergeant but that our case was probably a matter for CID
rather than the local police force. It
got Phil’s hopes up, only to have them dashed again the following day when PCJ
called to tell Phil that the fraud line had a back log and it would be at least
a week before they would be in contact.
After lunch on Thursday, I went to Harriet’s to try on some
of her dresses. She’d kindly agreed to
let me borrow a couple for the cruise gala evenings. Our figures are very different, Harriet is
taller but I did find 3 that fit me and it will make a change for me to wear
something other than black! I went
straight back to the flat after Caldecotte and Phil and I watched the last
recording of Derek. I have absolutely
loved this series, it’s brilliant. I
know Ricky Gervais is not everyone’s cup of team, I wasn't sure about the pilot but the writing in the first series is nothing short of brilliant. It has made me and Phil cry
throughout all the episodes. I cry a lot
these days; it doesn’t take much to start me off.
I love our little flat but it is very small and I get the
impression of late that I irritate the life out of Phil. He starts moaning at
me from the minute he opens his eyes, so on Friday I decided to get my
irritating self out of the way and stayed away all day. I went to the gym, dropped some cash off for
Harriet then picked up Jan from the OU and we went for lunch at ‘Ye Old Swan’
on Woughton on the Green. We had a
lovely lunch; we both had the mushrooms in peppercorn and stilton sauce, which
I highly recommend, followed by scampi for Jan and steak for me. It was very
good and the service was both efficient and attentive with was good because Jan
was in her lunch hour.
On Friday afternoon I wasted a couple of hours browsing in
the city centre. I got a couple of
cardigans for the cruise and a bargain bucket new coat from TKMax. It was just what I was looking for. I popped round to see Sue on Saturday afternoon
for a cup of tea. I didn’t see much of
her last week because she was gadding and gallivanting which is just how it
should be. I had to laugh out loud
because when I turned up she was trying on her blonde hired wig in readiness for
a 60’s and 70’s party that she was going to on Saturday night. Weirdly it quite suited her!!!
Phil surprised me a little by telling me that he had
arranged 2 house viewings on Saturday. He
also said that he had checked our savings and I was shocked at how little we
had left after selling no 11. I think it shocked Phil as well and the only way
we can buy a part shared ownership is if we top up with our credit cards. Now I’m no genius but this makes no financial
sense to me. I don’t want to go back to
having zilch in the account and having to rely totally on credit cards
resulting in paying horrendous interest.
Hopefully Phil will get back into Rexam and it’s crystal clear to me, that
I need to find a job myself. I also
think we need to rethink about the caravans.
It makes sense to keep them this year and see if we can get some use out
of them but next year I think we need to get rid of one of them if not both. I think before making that decision, we need
to measure just how much we stay at Overstone in this season.
Our weekend was quiet, we stayed in on Saturday evening and
on Sunday we drove to Melton to see mum and dad. It had been a while since we last
saw them so our visit was long overdue.
I was shocked to see how downhill Phil’s dad has gone in the space of
only a few weeks. Phil’s mum had told me
on the telephone that she was worried about him, he’d been doing some strange
things and so she took him to the doctors where they asked George some
questions to test his memory. According
to Phil’s mum he didn’t do very well in the tests and immediately I am thinking
dementia or Alzheimer’s. I need to do
some research.
Of course, his failing memory could be simply due to an infection
and George is going back to the doctors for some blood tests on Wednesday. Phil’s mum is not one for overly shows of
affection or tears but I could see that she was struggling to hold back the
tears on Sunday which upset me. At least
she feels that she can talk to me which is a good thing and obviously we will
do everything we can to help.
The reason for going down to Melton on Sunday was to
celebrate Mother’s Day a week early because we go away next Sunday on our
Costa-Nota-Alota cruise. Originally I
had booked a table at The Bowls Club but Phil’s dad refused to go so I had no
choice but to cancel. I told Phil’s mum
that there was no way she was cooking so I took down a beef in red wine dish
that I’d cooked for several hours in the slow cooker. I also took a dish of Potato Daphinoise and
so all I had to do was reheat in the oven and cook a few veggies on the
hob. It was easy, as was dessert, which
was a shop brought Apple Pie and readymade custard. Phil and his mum seemed to enjoy my lunch
offering but I noticed that George hardly ate anything.
I am not one for sitting around in silence doing sod all but
luckily Phil’s mum had a list of jobs for us to do because it seems that George
can hardly do anything to help her anymore.
I banned Phil’s mum from the kitchen and did all the washing up and
drying and then got the washing in off the line while Phil cut the grass. Phil fixed the curtain in the lounge and we
came away with a list of little bits to buy so we can do more jobs when we next
visit.
The hormones have been behaving themselves of late (touch
wood) and long may this continue. I am
not sure because if this is down to my daily intake of Menoserene or introducing
soya into my diet, I don’t know and neither do I particularly care as long as it’s
doing the job. I am sad to say that I
have only managed to lose 2Ibs and this is despite spending nearly 10 hours in
the gym last week. We fly off for our cruise on Sunday and I am really looking
forward to it even though it is only a short break. I noticed that the Costa Pacifica has a
fully equipped gym so for the first time ever in my life I am going to pack my Lycra
and my trainers. Whether or not I get to
actually use them is another matter but I have good intentions. Roll on Sunday!
