Well Happy New Year to one and all and welcome to the new
blog.
Did you celebrate in style and go out with a bang or did you
stay in and have a quiet one? We opted
for the latter. First thing on New Year’s
Eve, I went to the gym, thinking I may as well start the year as I mean to go
on. When I got back, Phil & I drove
the Land Rover over to the caravan to pick up the sofa bed. It wasn’t the best of days to go, as it was
pouring with rain as we loaded the dismantled sofa bed into the back of the Land
Rover. Dennis our neighbour came out to
give us a hand and wished us a Happy New Year.
Not only had Dennis drained down caravan number one but he’d also been kind enough to take down our plasma TV and cover it up safe from any burglar who may try their luck in the shutdown period. There was hardly any room for me with the sofa bed in the car and I was doubled up in the front seat on the way back to MK. Most uncomfortable.
We tried to stop off at The Maltings, a new pub in Stoke
Goldington for lunch which has recently opened.
Unfortunately for us, we ordered a drink only to find out that the pub
wasn’t serving food on NYE. Never mind, the
Merlot was nice and after dropping the car back at the flat we ended up dining
at the Gifford. I was surprised it wasn’t
very busy but then I am guessing everyone was saving themselves for the
evening. The rest of the day, well what
was left of it, was quiet. Some crap TV
and I went to bed before 9pm. Phil
stayed up to see the New Year in but only because of his cold and because when
he lied down his throat closed up.
Unfortunately Phil wasn’t feeling too great on NYD, he dosed
up with Lemsip and I went to the gym. We had noodles for our lunch and then we
decided to go to the cinema. We parked
up at Campbell Park by the canal and walked up the hill to SnoZone. There were a few films we wanted to watch but
in the end we decided upon ‘The Life of Pie’ namely because it was the earliest
film on. We had to hang around a bit
before the film started but once we were seated; we were enthralled with the
film from start to finish. Harriet had
been to see it and said it was long and boring but we thought it was brilliant
even though we only saw it in 2D. The
time flew by and it was almost 5pm by the time we got out of the cinema. It wasn’t pleasant walking back down to the
canal in the cold and dark and we were relieved when we finally got back to our
warm flat.
I am glad that normality is beginning to return, Christmas
seems to have gone on and on forever. On
Wednesday Phil went out with the Wednesday night boys as per normal. I went to Sue’s for supper with her and
Pauline. Poor Pauline is in the process of splitting up with her partner, so
Wednesday night was a cross between agony aunt and heartbreak hotel. Still, we had a laugh even though it was a
dry evening. Dry as in soft drinks, new
resolutions and all that.
And so a New Year and hopefully, a new me. I always start the New Year with high expectations
and this year is no exception. Generally
I break all my resolutions before the first week of January is out and it will probably
be the same in 2013, but this year I intend to intend to keep on trying even if
I do fall off the wagon. If I fall off
then I am going to climb back on again.
Sound like a plan?
Every now and then I have a wobble as to whether to blog or
not to blog. In early December I had a
major wobble and was adamant that 2012 would bring the end of The Naked
Bloggers but a couple of chums have convinced me not to give up just yet and so
for one more year, I will give it another go.
I am still convinced that people don’t really want to know what me and
Phil had for our lunch or how many miles I have run on the treadmill. Or how much red wine I have indulged in,
although hopefully this year it will be much less than in 2012. And so, I have decided that the format for
the blog this year will change. Maybe not
so much the format, but the content certainly.
For 2013, I am going to try and cut down on the
trivial stuff and will probably only post once a week. The only exception to this rule is if we are
away on holiday or have done something really exciting or have breath taking
news to share. These rules are not set in stone so please don’t hold me to
them. The only constant for the blog
will be the many spelling mistakes and typos.
Try as I do to re-read and edit before posting the typos and spelling
errors still crop up all the time. I
make no apologies. It is as it is and
some things never change. Nobody is
perfect and certainly not me!

Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteIts Life of Pi rather than Life of Pie. A Pie is round with a pastry top and filled with meat and potatoes. Coming from Melton Mowbray and being Pie eating champion of 1973 means that the average life of a Pie in our house is nano-seconds and wouldn't make much of a film. However, Life of Pi is a wonderful and unusual film and everyone should go to see it before 22/7.
